🚗 Can I keep my private number plate when I scrap my car?

Yes, you can!

Before your car is collected, you’ll need to remove (or ‘retain’) your private plate with the DVLA. You can do this quickly online or by post. Once done, your plate will be held on a retention certificate, ready for you to transfer to another car whenever you’re ready.

Top tip: Make sure this is sorted before collection — once the car’s gone, you won’t be able to transfer the plate!
